SBToolCZ for wooden passive house

Passive house in Frýdek-Místek by architect Michael Kocych became the first wooden building in the Czech Republic, which obtained the quality certificate SBToolCZ. This certificate issued by an independent certification body – Technical and Test Institute for Construction Prague – is the proof that the building meets the exacting criteria of quality in accordance with the principles of sustainable development. An important factor in the construction of passive houses is their thermal insulation. The passive house in Frýdek-Místek is insulated with Knauf Insulation. The building is conceived as a timber construction, based on oak shelves. Floor plan consists of a rectangle with usable area of 124 sqm. The layout follows the principles of passive construction – living spaces are oriented to the south. The house has a staggered design system of two-by-four type, where the inner structure is a carrier, while the outer, non-bearing system carries the facade system. The system constructed in this way defines the space for thermal insulation thickness of 520 mm of mineral wool. The walls are anchored in a pair by wooden planks, visually forming ladders. There will be vegetation formations on the roof, the windows are glazed with triple insulated glasses. The building is heated with hot air heat recovery, hot water is provided by rooftop solar panels.

SBToolCZ is the Czech national certification tool for expressing levels of quality buildings in accordance with the principles of sustainable development. It was created as the equivalent of foreign systems, such as LEED and BREEAM. Experts from the Czech Technical University, CIDEAS and Czech Sustainable Building Society are signed under the development of the system.
