The premises of open-air swimming pool Sĺňava in the village of Banka near Piešťany has been abandoned for several years and it is dilapidating. The municipality announced a tender for the sale of the land under it at the end of 2005. The best offer was submitted by the company Bana Thermal. The swimming pool should be opened by May 2010 under the conditions of the sales contract. It is now clear though, that this date will not be fulfilled. Mr Karol Ambra, the co-ordinator of the project, said that the project is proceeding and that they would like to open the premises in 2013. The recreational project should be developed on the area of 4,1 ha at the cost of 50 million EUR (the investor is not counting with eurofunds). The complex of building should include a 4-star business hotel, 3-star family hotel and an aquapark for 1 106 people.
