Nitra is looking for alternative sources of energy

Solar energy, biogas or energy from thermal springs – these are the most realistic alternative sources of energy for the town according to Jozef Dvonč, the Nitra major. The Energy Agency, established by the self-administration with the financial support of 250 000 Euro from the EC Program, is going to deal with possibilities of their utilizing. This amount creates 80% of entire costs; residual 20% will finance the association of 6 legal persons, which are members of the Energy Agency (towns Nitra and Vráble, the Slovak Agricultural University, the Energy Institute, the Nitra Heating Company, the Energy Centrum of Bratislava and Energoprojekt Nitra). The town already had the geology investigation elaborated focused on the goal to find a thermal spring.

Currently Donč signed the Majors' Agreement in Brussels, which EC adopted with the aim to integrate towns due to environment protection. Nitra committed by the sign to decrease CO2 emissions till year 2020 by 20% at least and to implement alternative sources of heating and energy. As Dvonč informed, 200 participants of the event signed the protocol, among them majors of big metropolis like London or Madrid.
