Levoča: The city began construction of Brown industrial zone Levoča-Juh

The city of Levoča began construction of Brown industrial zone Levoča-Juh (Levoča-South) yesterday. It received EU funding for the project. The total project costs amount to EUR 8.3 million, of which 5% is co-financed by the city, said Levoča mayor Miroslav Vilkovský. The Brown industrial zone will be built in the premises of former Levočské strojárne (Levoča machine Works), which is partly unused now. In the future, it should be extended southward to Spišska Nova Ves, on city land.

Within the project, land as well as existing buildings and production halls will be purchased, and a complete engineering network, including access roads will be created. One of the biggest items of the project is reloading the high-pressure gas, water mains and sewage pipelines and electricity networks. The park will have an area of 4.5 hectares. Its completion is scheduled within 18 months from start of construction.

Currently the city of Levoča has 3 parties to enter the industrial zone. They are companies from light engineering sector producing components for the aerospace industry, and construction of railway carriages,“ the mayor said. According to him two other investors have shown interest through SARIO. A minimum of 500 jobs will be created in Levoča by 2017.
