Petr Parléř Award 2008
Petr Parléř Award is an original contest for Czech cities and architects who have to submit the most interesting architectural designs and solutions of public areas, buildings and interiors in public administration. The contest gives a possibility to small towns to get a professional architectural study on the selected topic each year. In 2008, 18 cities submitted their applications and 11 of them were selected for participation. 15 architectural teams submitted their designs.
Petr Parléř Award 2008 was given to the study of revitalization of the town cemetery in Vítkov (authors: architects Martin Rosa and Jan Kratochvíl). The evaluation board especially appreciated the “aesthetisation” of the cemetery, with emphasis on a careful reconstruction of the funeral parlour, the authors’ sensitive and creative approach and the harmonization of the original cemetery concept with the current requirements on the operation and organization of its individual sections.
Hochtief CZ’s prize called Room for Living was awarded to the study of a new town centre for Svatobořice – Mistřín (authors: Jan Proksa, Lucie Vencelidesová and Michal Šrámek). The evaluation board especially praised the design because it creates suitable opportunities and facilities for the annual folklore festival. The proposed town centre therefore forms a richly structured area that will serve as a “room for living” during the whole year.
Stavby silnic a železnic’s prize for contribution to the development of urban architecture was given to the study of revitalization of the area of the former Ursuline convent in Jeseník.
