Construction of tunnels in the neighbourhood of Žilina should be priority
Considering the planned construction of tunnels on the D1 motorway, sections that require lots of time at the locations with highest density of transport should be built at first. This is what Mr Peter Witkovský, the deputy chairman of the Slovak Tunnellers Association said within the media meeting dedicated to necessity of tunnel construction. According to his opinion, priority from this point of view should be construction of D1 section between Žilina and Martin due to the increased accidents occurrence as well as construction of tunnels Višňové, Ovčiarsko and Žilina. “Those should be started long ago. The other tunnels can be started lets say in a years time, and we will have to wait for the rest . Construction was delayed only because there must be model of financing elaborated,” said Witkovský further and also remarked that this problem is being discussed in professional circles for more than a decade.
