Domestic builders predict production slump

The results of a poll involving the representatives of 73 large, medium and small construction firms show that the situation in the Czech building sector is getting worse. Companies expect a distinctly bigger slump of the whole sector and, consequently, their own sales. According to the managements of these companies, the situation is made even worse by the fact that the current changes are taking place at an unprecedented speed, which the companies can only respond to in a limited extent. “Quarterly Analysis of the Status and Development of the Czech Construction Sector 07/2009”, prepared by CEEC Research in cooperation with KPMG Česká republika and Ipsos Tambor, gives a worse account of the sector that the previous study – three months ago the firms predicted a decline in the production output by 3% on the average in 2009; today the prediction is 11%. Fifteen months ago, the respondents even expected a growth in this period.
