Vychylovka: the reconstruction of the forest railway will cost 166 thousand Euro

After two years break, the train of the Historical forest turning bay railway at Nová Bystrica – Vychylovka, which was seriously damaged by the long-term rainfall in 1997, started run again from May 01, 2009 to the first turning bay. The Žilina self-administration region (ŽSR) invested nearly 166 thousand Euro to the reconstruction of the damaged section of the unique technical monument track. „"Removal of landslides was not a simple matter for problematic access of technical equipment in the difficult mountainous terrain, "stated Lenka Jančová from the Kysuce Museum at Čadca, which manages the railway for ŽSR. Underpin the slope by 61 micro piles, construction of the massive support wall and repair of the water drainage system would be a definitive solution to the technical problem, which persisted for more than one decade. The Historical forest turning bay railway at Vychylovka is the only functioning railway in Europe with a turning bay system, therefore declared a National cultural monument in 1991. In the past it connected Orava with Kysuce.
