Slovakia will request extension of moratorium for sale of land

On Wednesday, the government approved a proposal for extension of moratorium for purchase of agricultural land and forests by foreigners for another three years, until 30th April 2014. At the same time they authorized the Ministry of Agriculture to submit the request to the European Commission. The ministry claims in its explanatory memorandum that there are still the economic and social reasons for which the restriction was imposed. According to the ministry, the proof is mainly the difference in prices in Slovakia compared to the original EU countries as well as different amounts of subsidy and income per agricultural unit.
