Foreigners will not be able to buy land in Slovakia for the next three years

The European Commission accepted the request of the Slovak Republic on Wednesday and extended the moratorium on the sale of agricultural land to foreigners – individuals for the next three years. The Commission decision is officially valid as of 1st May this year. On entering the EU in May 2003 Slovakia applied a moratorium on the sale of farmland to foreigners – individuals for seven years with effect until 30 April 2011. During this period, only legal persons resident abroad could buy land in Slovakia.
