The city obtained subsidies for a compost plant building-up

The Department of Environment approved the subsidies of 3 187 000 Euro to Nitra to build-up a compost plant. 80% came from a cohesive fund and state contributed by 15%. The town will finance up remaining 5%, what presents 167 000 Euro. Thus the entire costs will achieve 3.3 millions Euro. As Silvia Struhárová, from the municipal office informed, the compost works involving the most modern equipment of its kind would start serving Nitra inhabitants at the end of next year.

Its building will start in May and will last 16 months. It will stand on about one hectare ground near the wastewater treatment plant at Dolné Krškany behind the Nitra River. It would process 16 thousand tons of material – sludge from the wastewater treatment plant, plants and other organic wastes. It will produce 9 000 tons of compost, which the town is planning to use as additional fertilizer on public spaces.

The technology of composting will be innovative. „The known extensive process of organic waste ripening on a large area is not concerned. Compost is produced at increased temperature relatively quickly in eight weeks using the box process of processing organic mass, we chose, “Pavol Jakubčin, the chief of communal activities at the town council, told. All organic material, which create on 240 hectares of public spaces at the town in the frame of maintenance public green as well as in gardens of inhabitants, is to be composted.
