Building industry reacts to the crisis later, recovery also delayed

The construction industry is reacting to the crisis with a delay and it is probable that its recovery will be delayed too. “A certain reserve of the building industry in the time of crisis should be at least motorway construction where preparatory works in some sections started at the end of last year,” macroanalyst of UniCredit Bank Slovakia Dávid Dereník commented on last year´s building industry results. According to him works on buildings accounts for 70,4 % of all building works at the moment and works on infrastructure for 28,8 %. This share should change in the year 2010 in favour of infrastructure. “Falling construction industry will probably be reflected in the growth of unemployment in this sector,” added Dereník.
