Bratislava airport to be operated under concession

A strategic partner will acquire a concession for long-term operation of Bratislava airport by June 30th 2012; the Ministry of Transport will select an investor. This is suggested in the proposal for development of Bratislava airport, approved by the government. After comparing 3 options for development of the largest Slovak airport, the best option is to grant concession for the period of 30 years, according to the Transport Department. The Ministry also considered the possibility of direct selling and entering into partnership with Vienna airport. The department has until May to assess the selection procedure for a strategic partner of the Bratislava airport.

A minimum of EUR 350 million will be needed for the development of Bratislava airport in the next 10 years, especially for a complete reconstruction and extension of the main runway, completion and improvement of taxiways, construction of aircraft defrost device and expansion of aircraft parking stands outside the terminal. The entire selection process for a suitable consultant and the tender for selection of a concessionary must be completed by summer 2012.
