Slovak construction production in May, falling by 4.3 percent

Construction production in May 2011 recorded on-year fall of 4.3% to EUR 472.6 million. After seasonal adjustment, it was lower by 1.3% compared with April, Slovak Statistical Office has informed. It reached a volume of EUR 1,797 billion, and compared to the same period last year, it decreased by 4.1%. Production carried out by construction companies in Slovakia in May fell by 4.7% to EUR 456.3 million. Its share in total construction output fell year-on-year by 0.4 percentage points to 96.6%.

“The development of domestic production was affected by a decrease in construction work on new construction, including the modernization and reconstruction by 3.3% and repairs and maintenance by 15.2%,“ Statistical Office informed. The structure of domestic production, was comprised in 82% by new construction, including modernization and reconstruction which was 1.2% more than last year. The share of work on repair and maintenance decreased yoy by 2.1 percentage points to 16.5%. Production of construction companies carried out abroad in May increased year-on-year by 9.4% to EUR 16.3 million, and its share in the total production is 3.4%.
