Magurka, the highest laying Low Tatras settlement, is reviving

„Magurka, the highest laying settlement in Low Tatras (1,050m), is reviving thanks to development of holiday housing. Further development plans are expected,” said Ľubomír Frič, mayor of Partizánska Ľupča, where this settlement administratively belongs. “During the last years, the settlement has slowly fallen into oblivion. We started its development. A private company purchased 12 camp bungalows on the upper edge of the settlement and renovated them gradually,” continued the mayor. They funded building of public utilities to other building plots from their municipal budget. “Thanks to this investment, the interest in them has rapidly increased. We have already issued 5 building permits, and, according to submitted documents, other four are to be issued in this year. Holiday cottages will grow in the upper edge of the settlement and we count with growth of inhabitants. In the nearest years, 40 new houses will grow here which means that their number will nearly double,” Mr. Frič added. In past, gold and silver was extracted in grand scale. The mayor plans to revive the mining tradition in favour of development of tourism. He wants to finance an educational trail along the old mining ropeway or renewal of mine entrances from EU funds.
